Among other things for which I...

Among other things for which I am grateful to Christian Science, is the healing of the smoking habit. This healing came about through a desire for church membership. At the time the healing occurred, it did not seem at all unusual to me, but it may be helpful to others, so I am glad to tell about it.

At that time, twenty-four years ago, some branch churches accepted for membership persons who smoked, and I had been a member of a branch church for a few years while continuing the use of tobacco. However, in moving to another city and making application for membership there, I found that I could not have the privilege of church membership until the error was overcome.

As I knew from experience what a great privilege church membership is, my desire for it brought about an instantaneous healing. This required no effort of will whatever. The craving for tobacco simply melted away, and there has never been a suggestion of desire for tobacco in the intervening twenty-four years. Since that time changes of residence have brought with them membership in several branch churches, and I have gained much joy and benefit from service in various capacities in these churches.
