I wish to express my gratitude...
I wish to express my gratitude for Christian Science and for the happiness that it has brought to me and my household. I came into Christian Science, not for physical healing, but because I was restless, unhappy, and dissatisfied. I was a member of an orthodox church, but finding its limiting, materialistic teachings contrary to my inner concepts I set out to find a philosophy that would fill the void. I studied ancient religions and Indian beliefs before I came to Christian Science, and then I found the "pearl of great price."
According to the evidence in the excavations of ancient cities, there must have been a high type of civilization antedating the events of our Bible, and I felt that there must have been a Christ for those people, just as there is for us; that Christ is not a recent discovery; that Christ has been forever. Mrs. Eddy writes in "Miscellaneous Writings" (p. 336), "Science is the fiat of divine intelligence, which, hoary with eternity, touches time only to take away its frailty."
I have searched diligently with an open mind, through the Old Testament and the New, carefully studying all of Mrs. Eddy's writings, and for every statement of truth that she made I eventually found its counterpart in the Bible, thus bearing out her own assertion, "The Bible has been my only authority" (Science and Health, p. 126). I found that the lives and works of the prophets and apostles furnished ample proof of her statements regarding healing. Also, through the study of the Bible, I came to love a book which had been, to me, a lot of contradictions. My concept of God has also undergone a radical change. Before, I loved Him because I was afraid not to; now I can honestly say that I love Him for His inexpressible love, which is manifested to us daily. With a complete healing of this false education, I am better physically and spiritually.
