"Experience is victor"
It has been said that every problem awaiting solution calls for the overcoming of some phase of lack. The belief that supply, health, happiness, stability, confidence, opportunity, recognition, security, or progress is lacking, either temporarily or for a long duration, may seem to present insurmountable obstacles. Christian Science turns thought to the Bible for the antidote to this false belief. There we find the truth about man as the child of God, the expression of perfect Mind, who inherits all good and lacks nothing. Christ Jesus presented the truth of man's status by his progressive demonstration of dominion over all limitation, or belief of life in matter.
Throughout the Scriptures are to be found promises of deliverance from evil, and commands which must be obeyed in order that the promises may be fulfilled. One of these promises of abundance and commands is set forth in Isaiah, where we read, "Enlarge the place of thy tent, and let them stretch forth the curtains of thine habitations: spare not, lengthen thy cords, and strengthen thy stakes; for thou shalt break forth on the right hand and on the left." This passage is metaphoric. In the light which Christian Science throws upon the holy Word, and with spiritual understanding as a guide, it is not difficult to see that spiritual progress is indicated. In Christian Science we learn that one's real dwelling is in the consciousness of Truth. The command, then, indicates that we must enlarge our consciousness of spiritual reality, that is, expand mentally beyond the belief in matter, into the realm of pure Mind, infinitude, wherein are no limitations, no lack.
An illustration of what this does for one is found in the experience of a student of Christian Science known to the writer. She had made a trip from her home in the United States to England, and while there received a cablegram which informed her that the things she had held most dear had been swept away. Immediately she began declaring that joy is spiritual, that its origin and continuity are in God, and regardless of the testimony of the physical senses, it could not be taken from her. In a short time she gained peace and freedom form the limiting sense of loss, and found her rightful home and happiness.
