Fifty years ago my mother was given her first copy of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy. She studied the book with many doubts and questions, until two years later she experienced an instantaneous healing of erysipelas through declaring "the scientific statement of being" (p. 468). From that time Christian Science became "the law of Life" to our family. Mrs. Eddy says (ibid., p. 311): "When humanity does understand this Science, it will become the law of Life to man, —even the higher law of Soul, which prevails over material sense through harmony and immortality."

I had always been called a delicate child, suffering from throat and ear trouble so that I was unable to attend school during winter weather, from scrofula accepted as hereditary, and from severe headaches. All this dropped from me as my mother learned to lose her fears for me through her growing understanding of the one Father-Mother God.
