The Giving of Testimonies

Today , as never before, the world is being awakened to the importance of the church in stabilizing world democracy. On college campuses, in Camp Welfare work, in countries under fire, as well as in those countries which are still able to retain their freedom, its value is daily becoming more universally recognized as people in increasing numbers are turning to the church for the spiritual strength and peace which will carry them through present-day experiences.

Students of Christian Science gain a clear realization of true stability, spiritual power, peace, and strength as they ponder the definition of "Church" on page 583 of the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, which reads in part as follows: "The structure of Truth and Love; whatever rests upon and proceeds from divine Principle."

Truth and Love are synonymous terms for God, Spirit, of whom Jesus said to the woman at the well, "The hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth." The real Church, therefore, is wholly spiritual, embracting all the indestructible qualities of divine Mind, among which are unselfed love, compassion, wisdom, strength, peace, humility, steadfastness, joy, gratitude, durability.
