Christian Science was in my home long before I even noticed the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by our beloved Leader, Mary Baker Eddy. Then one day I picked it up from the arm of a chair where I sat down to rest, and read a few pages of the beautiful chapter on Prayer, very hurriedly laying it down when I heard anybody entering the room. I did not realize that it was making much impression on me, but many months after that I was away from home doing work that I did not like. I was homesick and unhappy, until one morning it suddenly came to me, "Why, what I want is Christian Science!" I was instantly healed, and have never wholly lost the sense of happiness and peace I gained then, although it was over a year before I began to study daily the Lesson-Sermons in the Christian Science Quarterly and to endeavor to put into practice what I read. Fear of colds from wet feet and of disastrous results from eating certain kinds of food were gradually overcome through applying what I knew of Truth each time any unhappy suggestion presented itself. Since that time the application of Truth has met my every need, for many years almost entirely without the help of a practitioner. Headaches, colds, grippe, influenza, laryngitis, have all been overcome very quickly and completely, and thus their nothingness has been proved.

Later in my experience I needed more understanding, and I shall never cease to be grateful to the loyal, faithful practitioners who helped me with much patience and love. What seemed hard experiences proved to be blessings, because they led me to the most precious of all experiences—class instruction. Since that time I have learned that real living is unfoldment of good and that true happiness is in no way dependent on matter, on person, place, or thing. Keeping thought wedded to Spirit, to the divine, brings the only happiness obtainable.

That disease is mental has been proved to me many times. One experience, especially, proved this fact to me conclusively. I was suddenly attacked with symptoms of grippe. In what seemed the space of a few seconds I rejected one phase after another of this disease, and it did not develop.
