Evening News,

My attention has been called to an interesting letter in a recent issue of your paper. The writer, however, appears to assume that all those who write for The Christian Science Monitor are Christian Scientists.

The Christian Science Monitor is a daily newspaper, which places reliable news and constructive views before the public. Many persons eminent in various walks of life furnish their opinions on topics of universal interest for the benefit of Monitor readers, but they are not all Christian Scientists.

The Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science, Mary Baker Eddy, says on page 113 of the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures": "The vital part, the heart and soul of Christian Science, is Love. Without this, the letter is but the dead body of Science,—pulseless, cold, inanimate." Christian Scientists cannot seek mere worldly eminence, nor become autocratic, for by so doing they would desert the teachings of their religion.
