A testimony appearing in the Christian Science Sentinel...
A testimony appearing in the Christian Science Sentinel brought to mind the fact that I have never given my testimony of healing of periodic attacks of great suffering.
This condition was supposed to be inherited, although mine seemed to be an extreme case, and had to be reckoned with in all my activities. Everything was done for me that friends or doctors could suggest, but all to no avail. Finally, when the pain seemed unbearable, I resorted to chloroform, and continued its use until the time I took up Christian Science, which was offered me in my search for a more satisfactory religion. I do not recall that I had any hopes of healing in taking up this study, but after gaining a little understanding of Truth I began using "the scientific statement of being" (Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, p. 468) during the attacks, and was so much relieved that only on one occasion thereafter was I obliged to take to my bed, and then only for a short time, whereas formerly I would be in bed for several hours. It was never necessary for me to have treatment, since my growing understanding proved equal to the need.
If I had never received any other healings in Christian Science this alone would impel my everlasting gratitude. However, there are two other healings I should like to relate. One was of a tumor. A practitioner worked for me for some time. The trouble seemed slow in yielding, and finally she lovingly said to me, "I think the work is your own, and that you can do it." I willingly agreed to undertake the work, but on two occasions fear got the better of me, and I went back to the practitioner. She only talked to me, however, and encouraged me to continue my own work, which of course I did. In the meantime I cared for my home, but it was four years from the time I first went to the practitioner before I could say with assurance, "I am healed."
