I became interested in Christian Science when a friend...
I became interested in Christian Science when a friend brought me a copy of the Sentinel and some other Christian Science literature to read. At the time I was extremely nervous, and I was told that reading the Sentinel would calm me. I took it home and put it away, but a few weeks later I became very much overwrought about all my affairs. Then I remembered the literature and began to read.
I did not think that just reading something could help me, but I never knew anything so wonderful as the effect the Sentinel had on me. I read it over and over again, and it did bring me peace and calm. It mentioned "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, and told how this book would heal. I was in need of physical healing, and I thought if the Sentinel could do me so much good, surely the textbook could do more. The next day I arranged to have it sent to me, for I was unable to arise and go after it.
From the first I loved all that it taught, and after a few weeks' study I decided to give up all material remedies, and went to an authorized Christian Science practitioner for help. My first healing, with the help of this practitioner, was of colitis, which I had been told could not be healed. When the practitioner explained to me that food could not touch or harm a spiritual idea, I saw this clearly, and that night I ate several kinds of food which I had thought particularly harmful to me, and they did not hurt me at all. This terminated a very strict diet, which I had been forced to undergo for three years, and which I had been told I should probably have to continue for the rest of my life. Other bodily functions became normal through the application of Christian Science.
