The Inescapable Law of Love

Christian Science reveals a simple fact which is plainly destined, when generally understood, to end human strife. It is that the love for one's fellows inculcated by Christ Jesus is not merely a moral or religious duty, in the usual sense, but a scientific procedure, and that it operates unfailingly in the interest of the one who adopts it, no less than of those whom he loves. It is the certain means by which in any human situation all concerned may be benefited, and benefited far beyond the ordinary expectations.

This great fact, which is even now being demostrated by Christian Scientists throughout the world, is fully explained in Christian Science. The love of which Jesus spoke is the quality of thought and life which expresses God; and God is the divine All-power, infinite Mind, infinite substance and Life. Genuine love, therefore, is the direct showing forth of intelligence, power, substance, and Life, which are not limited. Mary Baker Eddy, the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science, makes this plain in a single statement, in her interpretation of the Lord's Prayer. She writes (Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, p. 17), "And Love is reflected in love." All that God, divine Love, means is expressed and experienced in pure spiritual love. The blessings of such love, as it appears in any human situation, are necessarily for all concerned, because of the nature of divine Love itself. As Mrs. Eddy writes further (ibid., p. 13), "Love is impartial and universal in its adaptation and bestowals."

The pathetic and tragic effects of mankind's failure to grasp the true and practical meaning of love, as taught by the Master, are only too evident. Men have felt that they were limited in some way; and they have been interested, naturally and rightly, in correcting the condition. For Christian Science shows clearly that there is no limitation, no injustice, and no want in true being, and that what seems to be any of these is but a false belief, to be rejected and overcome.
