When I was in the depths of mental despair I found...

When I was in the depths of mental despair I found Christian Science, and I shall always be grateful that my mother recommended that I visit a Scientist who was a student of Mrs. Eddy. She had me come to her daily and read aloud to her. After I had done this for a short time, such an unspeakably uplifted feeling came to me that I shall never forget it. Then for some time I did not study, but when I really needed help I turned to a practitioner for it.

One demonstration for which I am grateful was made while I was in college. It seemed utterly impossible that I could give a piano recital at the time scheduled. The rehearsal the night before the recital was a miserable failure. However, I was having Christian Science help, so the night of the recital found me in the hall ready to perform. Divine Mind certainly was guiding my fingers that night, because I gave a nearly perfect performance, which was said to be outstanding.

Later, it was the hand of God that led me to a position which I accepted in another town, for it was there that I took my firm stand in Science. There were trials and temptations, but each proved to be a steppingstone to a deeper faith in and stronger reliance on Christian Science.
