Among the Churches

Current Notes

The Rainier District Times

Seattle, Washington (Fifth Church).—Fifth Church of Christ, Scientist, Seattle, held dedication services on Sunday, November 24, 1940, in the morning and afternoon. It is an invariable rule of a Christian Science church that it is not dedicated until entirely free of debt.

Christian Science Society, Seattle, was organized in 1911, and met in Socialist's Hall, Hillman City, but soon moved to Woodmen Hall in Columbia, and later into a new building on the corner of Rainier Avenue and Ferdinand Street, where it conducted Sunday and Wednesday evening services and opened a Reading Room.

In June, 1918, Christian Science Society, Seattle, was dissolved and reincorporated as Fifth Church of Christ, Scientist, Seattle. A church building was begun in July, 1921, and on November 15, 1921, the cornerstone was laid. On March 5, 1922, the first Sunday service was held in the new church home.—The Rainier District Times.
