"God, the Mind of man"

"The children of God have but one Mind," Mary Baker Eddy states in the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 470); and in the next sentence she refers to God as "the Mind of man." "How," she asks, "can good lapse into evil, when God, the Mind of man, never sins?" In this and many other passages in her writings, Mrs. Eddy makes it plain not only that God is Mind, but that He is the actual Mind of man, of everyone.

The interest and value of this revelation as it unfolds for the student of Christian Science can hardly be overstated. If he has been of orthodox religious upbringing, it begins to answer for him at once many a puzzling religious question. Where, for example, is God to be found? Not, obviously, in any material place, but in consciousness. How near is He to us? As near as our own thoughts; indeed we are one with Him. How are we to feel His presence, when He has seemed far away? By the scientific procedure of turning from a mere dream consciousness, the dream of mortal existence, to thoughts which express Him, infinite Spirit, divine Life,

Truth, and Love. This adoption of spiritually right thoughts is the procedure which the Apostle Paul manifestly referred to when he wrote, "Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus." It is the procedure which brings to those who pursue it, in the manner made plain in Christian Science, the evidences of spiritual power and dominion.
