Christian Science first came into our home about thirty-five...
Christian Science first came into our home about thirtyfive years ago, when medical science had failed to relieve my husband of a stomach trouble from which he had suffered for many years. Upon going to Kansas City, he called upon a friend, who was a student of Christian Science. This friend talked to him of Christian Science, and gave him a treatment. His healing was instantaneous. That noon he was able to eat a hearty meal without suffering the slightest discomfort afterward. The following day he returned home, and called upon a practitioner for help for rheumatism, from which he had suffered most of his life.
Previous to this, neither my husband nor I had ever seen a copy of the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy. The practitioner, after talking to my husband, asked me to read this book to him, saying that the reading would be a benefit to him. I did so very reluctantly, and only after much urging, for I did not understand the book. The practitioner told me not to worry about the words I did not understand, or the statements whose meaning seemed obscure, but to trust God and know that every word was there for a good purpose.
I had been reading to him for about two weeks when one day a neighbor said to me. "What has become of that goiter on your neck?" I put my hand to my throat and to my amazement found that a large goiter, which had been there for more than ten years, had entirely disappeared. Doctors had told me that the goiter was incurable, that only surgery could remove it, but that an operation would be too dangerous to be undertaken.
