"While he blessed"

"And it came to pass, while he blessed them, he was parted from them, and carried up into heaven."—Luke 24:51.

While he blessed them where they stood—
Peter, Thomas, all but one—
Such a father-motherhood,
Such a boundless benison,

Rested on each head and heart,
Doubts, betrayals fell away,
Each disciple had a part
In that bright ascension day.

Seeing them as they had been
Always, perfect, these eleven,
Loving, too, the one unseen,
He was carried into heaven.
