I was a young child when my parents became interested...

I was a young child when my parents became interested in Christian Science and were healed. My father had been suffering intensely from sciatic pains for two years. He had consulted leading specialists in both London and New York City and had submitted to several kinds of prescribed treatment. He had grown steadily worse until he was confined to bed. The final medical advice was that his leg should be amputated as a possible means of prolonging his life a few months more. He had decided against this added useless suffering when a nurse, who was not a Christian Scientist, but who had witnessed several healings by its means, gave him a copy of The Christian Science Journal and of the Christian Science Sentinel. My parents read the wonderful promises this literature offered, far into the night. The next day my father arose from his bed, dressed, and walked to a Christian Science Reading Room, two miles away, to borrow a copy of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy. I remember the joy of my parents as they eagerly read this textbook on the succeding days. My father was completely healed within three months, and during the following twenty-eight years he missed only two days from business, and this was owing to a throat difficulty, which was quickly healed. His work during this time necessitated almost constant walking.

My mother was healed of nervous prostration and the need of wearing glasses, which she had worn for eighteen years. The latter healing took place at a church service.

I began attending the Christian Science Sunday School the week after my parents commenced their study of the textbook. I had the wonderful experience of starting in the first class and continuing until I reached the age of twenty years. The instruction which I received in the Sunday school awakened me to the truth about God and His perfect creation, strenghtening me in every way. I have had many healings through Christian Science, including those of scalet fever, quinsy, sty, abscess, influenza, badly sprained ankle, and other physical troubles. I was almost instantaneously healed of a broken arm, which had been broken at the elbow and fractured at the wrist. A later X-ray examination showed a perfect setting. Only mental surgery was employed. I have also had the wonderful experience of a painless hour of childbirth.
