Signs of the Times

Topic: Peace through Overcoming

[From the Herald, Miami, Florida]

Twenty-five hundred years ago a prophet pictured a time to come when there would be peace, with all its gracious fruits. Much later Jesus, on his way to the cross, left the same promise with his followers, although he indicated that peace might be something other than mere inactivity. We know that so far as the relationships of the world of people are concerned there never yet has been any sustained peace.... Peace is not a commodity that can be made or bought by skilled hands. It is a complete ideal of life that is fabricated only in the human spirit. It is a way of life, a process and procedure producing an effect altogether desirable for the single soul or for the whole world of people. It is a thing toward which the desire of men often have pointed, but away from which the conduct of men has led....

We shall not achieve peace as individuals or for the world simply by drowning out the grisly sounds of strife, or hiding from the heavy services and sacrifices that are necessary if real peace is to come.
