For a long time I have been desirous of acknowledging...

For a long time I have been desirous of acknowledging my healing through reading the textbook of Christian Science, Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy.

I spent many years studying nursing. Then I studied various methods of healing, but I ended with no faith in their practice. Later, in great need of healing, I became confused, burned my diploma, and waited for the end. A specialist was called by others, and the verdict of death in from three hours to three days was given. Then a stranger called on business and asked if I would read a favorite book of his wife's if he had it sent to me. This was Science and Health. I could read only a little at a time, but could not let it alone. When I came to page 230 I stopped. There in plain language was the answer to the questions which I had asked of ministers, teachers, physicians, and which none could answer. I dressed. I had forgotten that I was supposed to be near death and continued to read the book. I did not question its authority, for I knew that the author of the textbook, who had answered my questions, knew more than any of us. Here was the truth that would free me. There were false ways to overcome, but the road could be traveled, because we have the words of the Christ, "Lo, I am with you alway," to comfort and protect. The joy that those words brought has never left me. The healings I have witnessed of hopeless cases are proofs of Truth's availability and power.

One day boiling syrup was spilled over my hand. Instantly I declared, "You have no power, and I'll give you none." I turned on the water and washed the hand, and not even a sign of redness could be seen. The words came without premeditation, but I realized later that the only power evil has, must be given it, and that spiritual fact has been very helpful several times since.
