Proving Our Work
THROUGHOUT his entire ministry, Jesus proved the power of the Word in such a complete and perfect manner that the whole Christian world is still striving to learn more of what he taught. The proof of the truth of his teaching was found in his overcoming of sin, sorrow, and disease wherever he went; for he was never unmindful of his divine calling, but always ready to meet every situation or circumstance that presented itself. He knew always that the erroneous condition was presenting itself to be destroyed by Truth. Otherwise he never would have said, "The Father that dwelleth in me, he doeth the works."
In "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" Mary Baker Eddy has said in speaking of Jesus (p. 473): "He proved what he taught. This is the Science of Christianity. Jesus proved the Principle, which heals the sick and casts out error, to be divine." Today, wherever there is an understanding of it, great gratitude is expressed for the Science of Christianity, which is awakening the human consciousness to the inseparability of God and man; while through intelligent, kind, and honest deeds its students are proving this. Again, speaking of the Master, our Leader has said (ibid., p. 26), "He proved by his deeds that Christian Science destroys sickness, sin, and death."
At one time a mother gained a valuable lesson from a child who was busy with her homework. As the child finished the last problem and closed her notebook, she joyfully exclaimed, "There, I am through, and my grade is one hundred." The mother asked her if her assumption was not premature, since her paper had not yet been graded. "Oh, no," she answered. "You see I have proved them all, and when you prove anything you know it is correct without someone telling you so." In a few minutes she was happily playing, for, having spent the necessary patient effort on her work, which included the proving, she did not need to think of it again.
