In a recent issue of Lofotposten, a certain pastor has an article wherein Christian Science is mentioned in a misleading manner. I must therefore ask space for a correction.

Christian Science does not teach that the sufferings of humanity are "merely imagination." But it teaches that suffering never comes from God, and that it may always be overcome through His help.

Christian Scientists do not try to shut their eyes to evil, either in themselves or others. Mankind suffers when God's law, as expressed in the Ten Commandements and the Sermon on the Mount, has been broken. The remedy is therefore always to turn in prayer to God, "who forgiveth all [our] iniquities; who healeth all [our] diseases," whether the suffering is mental or physical.

Mary Baker Eddy, the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science, writes in her textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 324): "Unless the harmony and immortality of man are becoming more apparent, we are not gaining the true idea of God; and the body will reflect what governs it, whether it be Truth or error, understanding or belief, Spirit or matter. Therefore 'acquaint now thyself with Him, and be at peace.'"
