For some time I had been having difficulty with one ear...

For some time I had been having difficulty with one ear and an arm, but since the pain was never very severe and came only at intervals, I paid no attention to it. I also had continual colds, which were seemingly due to a sinus condition. Finally I went to see a practitioner, and asked him for help. When I left, I went to the Reading Room, where I picked up a copy of The Herald of Christian Science (German edition). The first article I opened to was on the subject of environment. As I read and reread the article, I realized that environment does not depend on place or climate: that environment is primarily mental, unencumbered by matter or mortal beliefs. The article ended with Mrs. Eddy's words (Pulpit and Press, p. 4), "Who lives in good, lives also in God,—lives in all Life, through all space." That was the end of the sinus condition.

I continued to have work done for the other trouble. One evening when I was reading the testimonies of healing in the Sentinel, I found one by a person who had been healed of ear trouble and neuritis in the arm. When I finished reading this testimony, I raised my arm, for I expected to be healed. As I did so I heard something snap, and knew that I was healed. A sense of soreness continued in the arm, but I was grateful that I was able to move it with freedom, because I had not been able to do this for some time. The entire condition was overcome one morning as I was studying the Lesson-Sermon in the Christian Science Quarterly. The subject was "Sacrament," but to me it was a sermon on Love. Jesus' words were quoted, "If ye love me, keep my commandments." I thought of the love our Leader had for mankind and recalled her prayer (The First Church of Christ, Scientist, and Miscellany, p. 220), "God bless my enemies; make them Thy friends; give them to know the joy and the peace of love."

I am grateful for blessings received and release from pain; but when I consider the Principle of healing, and it is made apparent to me—"the Word was made flesh"—I am filled with awe.
