Extracts from Reports of Christian Science Committees on Publication

Southern California.

Through listening to a radiocast of Christian Science, a man in San Diego was healed of smoking.

A Pasadena family of five listened to a Christian Science religious program on the subject "Loyalty to God and Man." Two months later the mother in the family reported: "From that day conditions began to improve in our home, and there has been more harmony, and a higher sense of cooperation, loyalty, and progress. My hope and confidence were increased during the reading to expect blessings in this way." A woman in Los Angeles reported that she was healed of acute indigestion while listening to a Christian Science religious program. During a radiocast of Christian Science a woman in Culver City was healed of fatigue, weariness, and cold.

A woman in Long Beach — a widow with two children — was told on a Saturday that her work would terminate the following week. While passing a store building she heard over the radio the words, "All that I have is thine." She listened to the rest of this Christian Science program, and went home much comforted. Shortly afterwards she obtained employment in a local attorney's office, being chosen from many applicants.

A man in Long Beach, not a Christian Scientist, who had suffered financial reverses, planned to commit suicide, and wrote an undertaker where to find his body. When a representative of the undertaker, accompanied by two officers of the law, called at his address as requested they were told that he was in the back yard. They talked with him and he explained that after writing the letter he had turned on the radio and heard a Christian Science program. This broadcast included an article from one of the periodicals of The Christian Science Publishing Society. As a result of the truths he heard in the broadcast he had not carried out his suicidal intentions. Later, with the counsel of his landlord, some adjustments were made in his affairs and he is now comfortably cared for. After the case came to the attention of the Committee on Publication, Christian Science literature and a copy of the textbook were given to him, for which he expressed sincere gratitude.

Illinois.

One newspaper, during the course of the year, printed one hundred and twenty items on Christian Science, including a three-column picture of the Publishing House, fifty LessonSermon excerpts from the Christian Science Quarterly, a Christmas message from The Christian Science Board of Directors in Boston, a full report of the Annual Meeting of The Mother Church, and other items and announcements. An Assistant reported that an entire family had been healed of the effects of hatred through the reading of the LessonSermon excerpts.

Frequently groups of non-Christian Scientists extend invitations to the Committee on Publication to address their members on the subject of Christian Science. With the consent of The Christian Science Board of Directors in Boston, the Committee addressed last year a group of boys and girls at the Wilmette Methodist Church and a group of students associated with the Northwestern University Y.W.C.A. Much interest was expressed by these young people in the subject of Christian Science and particularly in the reports of healing resulting from the application of Christian Science.
