Deep gratitude for Christian Science and the many...

Deep gratitude for Christian Science and the many blessings it has brought prompts this testimony.

Driven by great fear of encroaching blindness and suffering intense pain in the eyes, in October, 1914, I was led to investigate Christian Science. I had been radically opposed to what I thought Christian Science to be, therefore I asked a friend to borrow a copy of Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy from the public library for me.

I could read but a little each day, and I challenged each statement and reasoned it out carefully. After six weeks of study I read the definition of "eyes" in the Glossary (ibid., p. 586): "Spiritual discernment, — not material but mental." To me this meant seeing things in the right spirit. I suddenly realized that, if this was true, two pieces of glass could never help me. The glasses were laid on the table and have never been worn since. The pain stopped, two degrees of crossed vision were corrected, and color, which had been sapped by the heavy lenses, was restored.
