When Christian Science was first presented to me I began to read the Sentinel, but felt that the views presented therein were so different from mine that I closed the magazine with the thought. This might be all right for some people, but it is not meant for me. Less than a year afterward, Christian Science was recommended to me for the help of my sister, who had been left crippled at the birth of a child, four years previously. The good seed was being sown, and like Jacob, "I knew it not."

I was greatly concerned about my sister at the time. She had tried every available material means, and "was nothing bettered." A few days after the recommendation of Christian Science was made, I went to a Christian Science Reading Room and told the attendant I wished to find out something about this Science. Thinking that I must state what I came for, I said that I had a sister who could not walk, and that I had arthritis in my hands and arms. The attendant lovingly lent me Science Health by Mary Baker Eddy and gave me a goodly supply of periodicals.

My time for reading was limited on account of my work, but I devoted all possible time to the study of the Bible and the authorized Christian Science literature. I saw that I must make a complete and extensive study of Science. I did not know the great reward received from an earnest and sincere reading of the Bible and Science and Health, which unlocks the door and reveals the healing truth.
