At a moment of seeming disaster, when we were approaching a careening car, driven by an intoxicated driver, the words, "God is my Life," came to my consciousness. There was an impact. My head went through the windshield of our car, but I did not lose consciousness. However, when I got out of the car and tried to walk, I discovered that my hip was injured. Our young son, who had been sitting in the back seat, ran to our home, which was only a few blocks away, to call a practitioner.

In the meantime, the police ambulance arrived and took my husband and me to a hospital. I was put into a cast, but with the loving help of a practitioner, I was able to return home in ten days. All this time, and during the days that followed, I had no sense of the seriousness of my physical condition. A physician removed the upper half of the cast, but the rest was left on. One night I awakened with the desire to be entirely free. The words of our Leader's hymn (Poems, p. 79) kept coming to me,
