Let Your Light Shine

IN the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus said: "Ye are the light of the world. . . . Let your so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven." In "The First Church of Christ, Scientist, and Miscellany," our beloved Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, writes (p. 191), "Christian Science is spreading steadily throughout the world;" and she adds: "Continue steadfast in love and good works. Children of light, you are not children of darkness. Let your light shine. Keep in mind the foundations of Christian Science—one God and one Christ."

Light dispels darkness. A light which is hidden has little value. In order that it may fulfill its mission, it must be exposed and its rays allowed to penetrate the darkness, thereby destroying it. As light destroys darkness, so the light of Truth destroys error. The world, in the darkness of fear, hate, greed, and intolerance, and in its great need, challenges every Christian Scientist to obey the admonition of our Leader, "Continue steadfast in love and good works," thus letting our light shine.

The Truth annihilates the beliefs of mortal mind. John declared, "God is light"; and man reflects God. Man exists to express God, good.
