"He maketh wars to cease"

It is written of God, in the forty-sixth Psalm, "He maketh wars to cease unto the end of the earth; he breaketh the bow, and cutteth the spear in sunder; he burneth the chariot in the fire."

Perhaps many readers of the above-quoted verse have asked themselves, "But when will the power of God cause wars to cease?" They may even have questioned the truth of the Psalmist's statement when confronted by the fact that wars have continued to recur throughout the centuries since these words were written. Even today, when wars are being fought in different parts of the world, some who long and work for world peace may be thinking, "Lord, how long?"

The answer to these questions was given by the prophet Ezekiel when he said: "Son of man, what is that proverb that ye have in the land of Israel, saying, The days are prolonged, and every vision faileth? Tell them therefore, Thus saith the Lord God; I will make this proverb to cease, and they shall no more use it as a proverb in Israel; but say unto them, The days are at hand, and the effect of every vision."
