The Lectures

Introductions to Lectures

Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada (First Church).

Lecturer: Peter B. Biggins; introduced by Mrs. Clara E. McKenzie, who said:—

Today, as through the ages, mankind is seeking an understanding of God and His law. It is recorded in the Bible that Abraham "looked for a city which hath foundations, whose builder and maker is God." Centuries later, Christ Jesus came showing humanity the way to a full and complete salvation. He proved his teaching by his healing works, and taught his disciples to do likewise. He said, "He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also." In this age Christian Science has revealed the practical availability of the same unchanging law of God to meet human needs.

My parents took up the study of Christian Science when I was a very small child. For many years my father had been seeking an explanation of Christ Jesus' healing works. One day a business associate told him of a book, written by a woman, which explained them. Before returning home that night he purchased the book, which proved to be the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy. The study of this precious volume brought untold benefits into their lives. Sickness, fear, and uncertainty were replaced with health, confidence, and expectancy of good.

All who study Christian Science may find in its teachings the solution to their problems.

Bremerton, Washington (First Church).

Lecturer: Judge Frederick C. Hill; introduced by Captain Donald R. Fox, who said:—

The present speaker can give grateful testimony of many healings, effected through Christian Science treatment, which he has experienced, or which he has observed in the case of members of his family. Among these have been healings of fear, profanity, tumor, pneumonia, appendicitis, whooping cough, sprained ankle, blood poisoning, scarlet fever, cracked ribs, the necessity of wearing eyeglasses, and the habit of using tobacco and alcoholic beverages. One of these healings occurred during a Christian Science lecture.

On this occasion let us praise God, and rejoice as David did when he sang, "Thou wilt shew me the path of life: in thy presence is fulness of joy; at thy right hand there are pleasures for evermore." And we may well recall the words of our Master in the Sermon on the Mount, "Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled."

Copenhagen, Denmark (First Church).

Lecturer: Miss Lucia C. Coulson; introduced by Miss Anna Petersen, who said:—

You have been invited to hear a lecture on Christian Science, and we may well liken it to a joyous feast, where the words of truth will be our food; and as we partake of this food and listen to the inspiring words of the lecturer, we shall be strengthened and encouraged.

Christ Jesus said, "Ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free." Christian Science is the law of God, which frees from wrong beliefs of sickness, sin, disease —all inharmony—in the proportion that we understandingly apply it. I have proved this in my own experience. Christian Science has brought to me health, peace, and joy. It has given me a workable understanding of God, an understanding which, when honestly applied to any problem, has met the need; and this wonderful truth is free to all.

Our dear Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science, has lighted the way for the whole world through her revelation of this Science.
