Although we had studied Christian Science for several years, and it had helped us to overcome sickness and troubles, it was not until February, 1934, that my understanding and faith were seriously tested during the illness of our fourteen-year-old daughter.

Many difficulties seemed to bear down upon the child at the same time, among them typhoid fever, a very bad throat affection, and attacks of suffocation. A practitioner helped us day and night and taught me not to fear, for fear is distrusting God's power to heal. How I struggled with a mother's fear! How I tried to see God's perfect likeness! Three times, when error would have suggested that the child was very ill, I opened my Bible; and oh, what glorious proofs I found there of God's presence! Three times I opened to the ninety-first Psalm. The child also helped us very much with her understanding. Even in her sleep she repeated the Lord's Prayer. She had pinned a copy of "the scientific statement of being," from "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy (p. 468), on the curtain of her bed. How rich in experience and growth those months of sickness were! I nursed the patient myself, day and night. Thought in the morning I had to teach at school, Love gave me spiritual strength to do the work.

Glory be to God and to Christian Science, which reveals His allness, for all the difficulties were overcome at last. I hope, by sending this testimony into the world, to help many a mother whose spiritual sense may be darkened by fear.—(Mrs.) Isidora C. Joaquim, Sourabaya, Netherlands India.
