Freedom to Act Rightly

[Written Especially for Young People]

We who are young have a great responsibility, namely, to show by our example that since youthfulness is a state of consciousness, all should and can attain and retain it. Paul said to the young man Timothy, "Let no man despise thy youth; but be thou an example of the believers, in word, in conversation, in charity, in spirit, in faith, in purity."

On page 244 of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" Mary Baker Eddy tells us that "man in Science is neither young nor old." In all our daily experience we are called upon to prove the truth of this statement that "man in Science" is ageless.

"Man in Science," the perfect, ideal man, is immortal. Only in the degree that we express in our lives the perfect man can we claim the freedom of action which rightfully belongs to all of Mind's ideas. If we allow the false mortal beliefs of immaturity, childishness, to govern us, in contradistinction to the attributes of real manhood, we must expect restriction of activity and unhappiness. When we express the divine qualities of humility, faith, purity, and love, which are the eternal attributes of man as God knows him, then we can expect and demonstrate freedom of action, and receive respect and consideration from all. To demand this freedom or expect it on any other basis, is foolish and willful.
