True Employment

Can I desire a greater joy
Than that which flows from God's employ;
In waking light to feel His love,
And through each day His truth to prove?

Just where I am He points my task,
Assigning all that I can ask;
My work within the power of prayer
Grows sweet beneath His constant care.

Steadfast and calm I thus can stand,
My thought uplifted by His hand
To see amid the daily round
That every place is holy ground.

So, Love-protected, each behest
Of His fulfilled, is labor blest;
Reflecting Him to all mankind
By deeds of love, true rest I find.
