A minister, speaking over this radio station a few days...

A minister, speaking over this radio station a few days ago, made some misleading remarks concerning Christian Science, among them the following: "Christian Science is the work of the devil;" and, "Christian Scientists do not believe in God." Doubtless the majority of our friend's listeners did not accept his statements as facts, for it is common knowledge in this day that Christian Science is a Christian religion, and that its adherents emphatically believe in God. But for the benefit of those of the radio audience who may know very little of the teachings of Christian Science, and who desire to be rightly informed, these corrective or explanatory remarks are given.

It would be hard to formulate a statement more contrary to fact than our friend's statements that Christian Scientists do not believe in God. The allness of God—His omniscience, omnipotence, and omnipresence—is iterated and reiterated throughout the published writings of Mary Baker Eddy, the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science. On page 48 of her book "Unity of Good," in answer to the question. "Do you believe in God?" Mrs. Eddy clearly states: "I believe more in Him than do most Christians, for I have no faith in any other thing or being. He sustains my individuality. Nay, more—He is my individuality and my Life. Because He lives, I live. He heals all my ills, destroys my iniquities, deprives death of its sting, and robs the grave of its victory. To me God is All."

As to our friend's statement that Christian Science is "the work of the devil," permit me to say that through teaching and inculcating the allness of God, Christian Science is daily and hourly healing sickness and disease and destroying the sinful appetites of the human mind to a marked degree. It is indeed a strange line of reasoning that would attribute these good works to "the devil." Our Master, Christ Jesus, said, "By their fruits ye shall know them;" and Christian Scientists are glad to have their religion judged on this basis. Just here it may be noted, however, that even the Master was accused of doing his healing works through "Beelzebub the prince of the devils."
