Signs of the Times

Topic: The Search for God

[Edgar E. Atherton, in the Christian Advocate, Cincinnati, Ohio]

"The production and diffusion of books and periodicals must become a primary responsibility of the Christian church. Character and culture of the traditional order are not enough for life. We have entered a time when the major conflict is a conflict of ideas, a conflict of totally different views of interpreting the meaning and purpose of life."

This expression from the pen of Dr. John A. Mackay, president of Princeton Theological Seminary, points out one of our most important tasks in giving the world today an adequate understanding of the Christian gospel. People are led into the truth only when they have a sufficient knowledge of the truth. We must furnish people with ideas. And ideas are fruitfully dispensed through the printed word, in books, magazines, and tracts.
