Alhambra, California (First Church).—Dedication services were conducted on Sunday, December 26, 1937, in the morning, afternoon, and evenin, by First Church of Christ, Scientist, at 200 West Commonwealth Avenue, Alhambra.

Christian Science was introduced in Alhambra about forty-seven years ago by a sister of one of the early governors of California; and the first meetings of those who became interested in its teachings, through its healing ministry, were held in her home.

In a few months the attendance had so increased that arrangements were made for the use of a small auditorium in the First National Bank Building. Regular services were then instituted, and the public was invited to attend. The following year, 1899, Wednesday evening testimony meetings were begun. These services were continued regularly, and the steady growth of interest and attendance brought about the organization of a branch church. The charter of First Church of Christ, Scientist, Alhambra, was granted on October 4, 1899; the Sunday school was established, and a Reading Room opened shortly after. This church is a branch of The Mother Church, The First Church of Christ, Scientist, in Boston, Massachusetts.
