"An understanding heart"
Dear
Lord, I do not ask that Thou wilt give increase
Of wealth, possessions, earthly things, that soon will cease.
But, like the chosen king, dear Lord, give Thou to me
An understanding heart, so I may truly see
As clearly as did he, whose prayer was heard of old,
That God alone has power. Then will I truly hold
The consciousness of good, unsullied by the stain
Of carnal mind, freed from belief in sin and pain,
From lack of understanding. Since Thou givest me
The understanding heart, then do I walk with Thee.
