On page xi of the Preface to "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" Mrs. Eddy writes, "When God called the author to proclaim His Gospel to this age, there came also the charge to plant and water His vineyard." How faithfully our Leader did this every loyal Christian Scientist can testify!

The Church Manual, through its By-Laws and Rules, may be regarded as setting forth the method to be followed by Christian Scientists in continuing this spiritual planting and watering. Christian Science is clearly set forth in the Bible and the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, and Christian Scientists with an understanding of its teachings are following the procedure and practice of their revered Leader in making the healing truth known and demonstrating it, while protecting what has been achieved.
