Ever since childhood I had yearned for the truth, not...
Ever since childhood I had yearned for the truth, not being satisfied with what doctors and pastors told me, but maintaining that surely there must be a solution to and way out of suffering. My sister and I were brought up by servants who seemed cruel, and we did not have a single relative to whom we could turn for sympathy.
Many years later, when I could endure illness and mental agony no longer, I thought I would inquire into Christian Science, which I had only once heard mentioned. When it was explained to me, I instantly recognized it as the healing religion Jesus taught, and told us to preach and practice. I realized it was what I had been searching for all my life. I also saw that years of suffering had prepared my thought for what I might otherwise have rejected. God prepares the hearts of His servants.
Since then Christian Science has been my only prop and solace, and completely fills the gaps left by father, mother, brother, sister, and friend. It has brought peace into the home. Whereas before, my husband was antagonistic to this teaching, he has become wonderfully kinder and more loving; and I have become the same. Our children, now grown up, were brought up in Christian Science, and have been quickly healed of mumps, chicken pox, hernia, and whooping cough, among other things, and have never had medicine. They express much joy, unselfishness, and consideration for others. I have been healed of influenza, internal hemorrhage, and of a torn ligament in my foot, being able to walk in two days.
