Twenty-nine years ago, seeking health, I went with my family to New Mexico. A doctor sent word to my people that I did not have long to live. A friend of mine, thinking it wise to tell me, did so. I felt no fear, because I realized that it was the doctor's verdict, not mine. I knew I should be healed, for my mother was a Christian Scientist, and I realized, absolutely, that I too could rely upon Christian Science for my healing. Shortly after this another doctor, a friend of our family, brought a Christian Scientist to our home, who quoted Peter's statement, "Silver and gold have I none; but such as I have give I thee." I wept for joy, and asked for help. In a few treatments I was completely healed of an organic disease that had troubled me since girlhood. I then resolved to lay my "earthly all on the altar of divine Science" (Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, p. 55), for in God's healing power I had found the "pearl of great price."
I should also like to relate a healing which was to me most convincing. Over three years ago, when I was visiting in the Middle West, a severe attack of arthritis came upon me, and for two weeks I suffered excruciating pain in one of my legs. It was almost unbearable; the limb was twice its normal size, and I was unable to walk. Through the loving work of a practitioner I was healed, and returned to my home in California. The day after I returned home, I was invited to join a party which climbed three hundred steps up a very steep hill. I succeeded in going to the top without any difficulty. This healing gave me great reason for gratitude for the gift of Christian Science and for the many blessings it has brought. My grateful acknowledgment goes out to our revered Leader, Mrs. Eddy, for the understanding of God and His Christ revealed through her teachings. My sentiments are largely expressed in the words on page 503 of Science and Health, "Hence the eternal wonder,—that infinite space is peopled with God's ideas, reflecting Him in countless spiritual forms."
(Mrs.) Lulu B. Loop, Long Beach, California.
