Daystar

When to the earth our Saviour came,
This guide to all the world was given—
A splendid star of living flame,
Burning in the height of heaven.
Yet but the Wisemen from afar
Beheld the glory of that star.

And ever through the world's dark night,
Chaotic with its doubts and fears,
There shines that calm and steadfast light,
Still guiding thought across the years.
And constantly I pray to be
Alert, that guiding star to see.

Then, as I see the break of morn,
The spiritual life I find,
And from this pure conception born
A perfect savior for mankind.
Thus may I, with this star to guide,
Make every day a Christmastide:

Thus find that Life is wholly good,
And prove unreal all mortal ills,
Which fade as Life is understood.
And as across the frosty hills
Kings rode to offer gratefully,
I consecrate my life to Thee.
