It is with sincere gratitude to God and to our revered Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, and to the practitioners who have so lovingly helped me and mine, that I give this testimony. In the words of the Psalmist, "Many are the afflictions of the righteous: but the Lord delivereth him out of them all." I never found this to be true until I began the study of Christian Science.

My mother was healed in Christian Science when I was nine years old. From that time, as long as we were at home, we children did not know what medicine was. I was only one of the multitude, though, and took only the loaves and fishes. When I reached manhood, I soon dropped Christian Science. There was a period of several years in which I had nothing to do with any form of religion. About ten years ago I went back into the Baptist church, having belonged to this church when I was a boy. During this time I became very antagonistic to Christian Science. After putting in several active years in this church, I could not reconcile myself to the thought of God being Love and yet hating and punishing His children.

I had about decided to drop religion altogether, for it did not satisfy the longings of my heart. My wife had been in poor health for the greater part of our married life. In January, 1037, she turned to Christian Science and was healed. I then took up the study of Science.
