In reply to a certain bishop, I would say that an agriculturist who is a student of Christian Science would naturally cultivate his land, sow his seed in the usual way, and confidently expect the normal increase.

The inference that Christian Scientists make "no effort to use the means" to restore health is misleading. Mrs. Eddy states in her Message to The Mother Church for 100 (p. 2), "The song of Christian Science is. 'Work—work—work—watch and pray.'" Christian Scientists are working out their own salvation, and are striving to emulate the works of the Master by letting that Mind be in them "which was also in Christ Jesus."

We read in the Bible of "a certain woman, which had an issue of blood twelve years, and had suffered many things of many physicians, and had spent all that she had, and was nothing bettered, but rather grew worse." Then we learn that she turned to Christ Jesus and was immediately healed. Christian Science maintains the standard set by Christ Jesus. It employs spiritual means alone in healing. Jesus never used drugs. It is this radical reliance on spiritual means alone which accounts for the success of the healing work in Christian Science.
