That Christian Science does heal has been conclusively proved to me many times. Physical healing of severe attacks of tonsillitis, burns and the fear of being burned, erysipelas, and periodic pain came quickly, either through help given by faithful practitioners or my own study of the textbook, Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy. Insomnia and nervous sick headaches, so severe that only opiates gave relief, were healed overnight when I knew nothing of Christian Science, for I did not know that the help which had been lovingly offered me was a Christian Science treatment. However, I did not at that time accept the truth, and fully expected a return of the trouble, which manifested itself again sometime later, though never in such severe form. Several years later, after I took up the study of Christian Science, much help was received from consecrated practitioners; and after earnest effort on my part to correct unloving and unlovely thinking, the headaches and sleeplessness finally vanished completely. A hand badly mangled through contact with an electric fan was healed within a few hours by my holding steadfastly to "the scientific statement of being," as found on page 468 of Science and Health.
I am deeply grateful for these and many other physical healings, also for the protection against illness, accident, and contagion which I have enjoyed for a number of years; but I am even more grateful that Christian Science is daily helping me to overcome many unpleasant traits of disposition, making me a little less critical and sarcastic. While I know much more must be done in this direction, I rejoice over the progress made, and am truly thankful that I have gained the positive assurance that the truth, as taught in Christian Science, heals disease and casts out sin. Church membership, with its opportunities to serve in small measure, and class instruction have been added blessings. I am indeed thankful to God and to our beloved Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, for her priceless gift of Christian Science to the whole world.—(Miss) Lois Short, Omaha, Nebraska.
