My Need

Dear God, my need is great:
The battle long; the night
Of doubt and fear o'erwhelming;
Thou, Father, givest light.

Dear God, my need is great,
For courage just to stand;
And know the wilderness will lead
Into Thy promised land.

Dear God, my need is great,
For true humility
To cast aside all sense of self,
For Spirit's purity.

Dear God, my greater need
Is for the opened eye:
For vision clear, to pierce the veil
Of matter's falsity;

To know that Truth ne'er fails:
To love my fellow man:
Be childlike in obedience
Unto my Father's plan.

Then, praise shall rend the mist,
And prayer all fear dispel;
Till thought shall rise triumphantly,
Knowing that all is well.

Thus seeking, I shall find
Mind's rhythm appear; and Soul—
God—Christ, and man, in unity,
Complete—one perfect whole.
