The Lectures

Introductions to Lectures

Mount Vernon, New York (First Church).

Lecturer: Hendrik J. de Lange; introduced by Mrs. Dagmar Nielsen Thomas, who said:—

On page 52 of the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, she writes, "The highest earthly representative of God, speaking of human ability to reflect divine power, prophetically said to his disciples, speaking not for their day only, but for all time: 'He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also;' and 'These signs shall follow them that believe.'" These prophetic words of our Master are today being fulfilled in an ever-increasing degree by the healing ministry of Christian Science throughout the world.

After her discovery of Christian Science, and after submitting it to the broadest practical tests, Mrs. Eddy published her textbook, in which the Principle and practice of Christian Mind-healing are so clearly set forth that it has healed thousands who have read it. I can personally bear grateful testimony to this fact, for my first healing in Christian Science came after a month's earnest study of its textbook. My mode of thinking was so changed that I found myself healed of a chronic disease. For more than twentyfive years I have depended entirely upon Christian Science, and to it I owe my health and happiness and all the good that has come into my experience.

Burnley, Lancashire, England (First Church).

Lecturer: Judge Frederick C. Hill; introduced by Mrs. Marie Lane Pearce, who said:—

A Christian Science lecture is a joyful occasion, for it brings a message of inspiration and encouragement, its mission being to heal, to enlighten, and to bless mankind.

It was through the teachings of Christian Science, revealing to me that the spiritual law of God is ever present to heal and save, that I was enabled to rise from fear and sickness to a life of useful activity. For many years I had suffered from lung disease, and in a time of great distress I turned for help to Christian Science; and I am grateful to say I proved the efficacy of its healing power. For over twenty years I have relied solely upon this Science in every kind of problem with which I have been confronted; and during these years I have witnessed many proofs of its healing power for others.

In the Christian Science textbook, Science and Health by our beloved Leader, we find these words (p. 390 ): "It is our ignorance of God, the divine Principle, which produces apparent discord, and the right understanding of Him restores harmony."

Oklahoma City, Oklahoma (Second Church).

Lecturer: William Duncan Kilpatrick; introduced by James R. Corbett, who said:—

Christian Science was lived and applied in our home several years before I became interested. Although many discordant physical conditions were overcome, two of which were termed incurable, it was not until a member of my family was healed of a broken bone, without any material aid, that I accepted Christian Science as the religion Christ Jesus taught and demonstrated. I lovingly accepted its teachings and have been bountifully blessed.

In Isaiah we read, "The harp and the viol, the tabret, and pipe, and wine, are in their feasts: but they regard not the work of the Lord, neither consider the operation of his hands." This is the material feast Christian Scientists are endeavoring to put off, and to be armed with the spiritual, as given in I Corinthians, "Therefore let us keep the feast, not with old leaven, neither with the leaven of malice and wickedness; but with the unleavened bread of sincerity and truth." Christian Scientists have been privileged to partake of these spiritual feasts and are happy to share them with you.
