My mother became interested in Christian Science when...
My mother became interested in Christian Science when I was a child. I was benefited through her understanding and application of it. Later I had to prove its great value for myself. Mrs. Eddy writes in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 449), "A grain of Christian Science does wonders for mortals, so omnipotent is Truth." In my early years, inharmonious conditions in our home troubled my thought. Then occurred the passing on of my parents. As I grew older I seemed almost alone and left without sympathy. I continued to carry on with an unsatisfied longing for something better, although believing that the illusions of the narrow and limited senses gave pleasure and offered some means of attaining necessary needs, only to find disappointments, loneliness, and the depths of darkness.
Today I am most grateful for a better understanding of Christian Science, through which I have gained more dominion and freedom, and for the fact that I could not lose my hold on this Science through the years of stumbling, during which divine Love gave me protection, and compelled me to look beyond the confines of material sense into Truth, the source of all good.
Since I began an earnest study of Christian Science, it has enabled me to rise from the mist of materialism to a new and more clarified consciousness. I am very grateful for the many blessings I have experienced. Some of them are the overcoming of certain habits and discordant conditions. I was gradually healed of insomnia, fatigue, severe coughs, and colds. Our young child has been healed many times with the help of a practitioner, and other benefits he has received are evident. My greatest desire is to gain more of this truth and be able to prove my gratitude and help others by living in accordance with its teachings.
