"Hitherto hath the Lord helped us"

HITHERTO hath the Lord helped us," is one of the well-known sayings from the Bible that remind us of God's protection. Why, then, should we let fear master us, when we remember that the Lord hitherto has helped us? Why not, rather, go on trusting God, knowing that He continues to care for us and provide for our needs?

It is our privilege constantly to study the Bible. Should we not, as we enjoy this privilege, thank God for it? As students of Christian Science we have especial reason to be grateful to God for the revelation of Christian Science, which brings out the spiritual meaning of Scripture, and enables us, through spiritualization of thought, to make practical use of revealed truth in our daily lives.

Is not fear always ready to present itself, trying to prevent our clear, logical thinking? How many times do we succumb to this foe instead of saying, reverently and gratefully, "Hitherto hath the Lord helped us"! Christ Jesus, the Way-shower, warned his disciples to watch and pray lest they should fall into temptation. We find many similar admonitions in the Bible.
