When Christian Science came to me I was suffering physically,...
When Christian Science came to me I was suffering physically, mentally, and financially. Having gone through five operations, I was looked upon by everyone as a semi-invalid, and I certainly felt the part. I was spending at least three days a week in bed, during which time I could retain no food, not even water.
I read my Bible often, but it gave me little comfort, except the fifteenth and sixteenth verses of the ninety-first Psalm: "He shall call upon me, and I will answer him: I will be with him in trouble; I will deliver him, and honour him. With long life will I satisfy him, and shew him my salvation." I would meditate on those two verses by the hour and feel comforted. I felt that God was standing by and would see me through the trouble and sickness.
Then came Christian Science, the greatest gift I have ever received. Some friends who were interested in this Science told me of it, saying that it would heal me, and invited me to a Christian Science church service. I accepted the invitation contrary to my desires, because I did not think I could possibly derive any help from it. However, I did appreciate the kind thought of my friends in wanting to see me healed, and with an open mind I went. At that service I experienced a great sense of quiet and peace.
