Christian Science is the greatest blessing that ever came...
Christian Science is the greatest blessing that ever came to me. For over twenty years I had been a very sick woman, was unable to walk much and could not go far alone. I could never be without brandy; the doctors said that when that lost its effect they could do no more for me. I suffered from a leaking heart, had very swollen feet and legs, and could eat only certain food.
A friend offered the loan of the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy. When I opened the book at the first chapter, on Prayer, I read the following words (p. 1), "The prayer that reforms the sinner and heals the sick is an absolute faith that all things are possible to God,—a spiritual understanding of Him, an unselfed love." Words could not express what my thoughts were on reading those words and the uplifting I received. Later I had a talk with one who understood Christian Science, and she told me that "God is no respecter of persons," that what He does for one He does for all. As I thought over these words I said to my husband, "Then God will do it for me;" and from that day, over eleven years ago, I have never taken medicine of any kind, nor have I taken one drop of brandy. I was healed by the reading of the textbook. I was able to eat every kind of food, to go out alone, and to take long train journeys without fear.
My healing led my husband to study Science. He became a devout student and had a beautiful healing of the smoking habit of over sixty years' standing, and also of indulging in strong drink for over fifty years. A year after taking up the study of Christian Science I had a healing of gallstones. The fear expressed was so great that a doctor was called. He said that unless a change occurred within two hours he would demand an operation as it was a case of life and death. Needless to say, the need was met. I could never express full gratitude for the love and patience of the Christian Science practitioner during that time. It was a beautiful healing, and by the end of three weeks I was able to take up my duties at church as organist.
