Signs of the Times

Topic: Christmas

[Rev. H. L. Orians, as quoted in the Bay View Press, Milwaukee, Wisconsin]

Each year at Christmastide this old world of ours, weary of its round of pleasures and toil, worn out by its fears, ambitions, and sorrows, pauses for a moment to return once again to the crib of Bethlehem, ... and tarries awhile in the hope that some of the beauty, joy, and radiance of that event may bathe its soul.

It is well that we have a season like this, a holiday from our forgetfulness of others, a period when we see again that we are made for love because "God is love," a time when we dare to hope that this wounded world shall be lifted out of the shadow of strife and cruelty into the light of justice and joy.
