Our Office as Spiritual Thinkers

"To live so as to keep human consciousness in constant relation with the divine, the spiritual, and the eternal, is to individualize infinite power; and this is Christian Science," Mrs. Eddy tells us on page 160 of "The First Church of Christ, Scientist, and Miscellany." The import of these words was brought home anew to a student of Christian Science who had tried in vain to remove the prejudice against Christian Science expressed by a member of her family.

One night when the student arrived home, she found this dear one quite ill. To suggest Christian Science treatment did not seem wise, for it had just recently been refused. The student retired to her room with thoughts of fear and apprehension. But she knew that this erroneous thinking would not help, and that, if she were to be a loyal student of Christian Science herself, she must destroy this sense of fear in her own consciousness. Humbly and obediently, she lifted her thought to divine Love, and found something helpful to study. When she retired she had wholly dismissed from her thought the condition which had seemed to confront her when she reached home.

The next morning the loved one came to the student entirely free from the belief manifested the previous night. Her face alight with joy and gratitude, she asked if she had been given a treatment in Christian Science. In the place of prejudice and disdain was loving acknowledgment of the healing power of Christian Science. Of course, no direct treatment had been given, but the understanding of the real household of God in the consciousness of the student had destroyed opposition and brought healing into her home.
